Ryan McCourt: Metals/Myth

MAR 2, 2017 – MAR 23, 2017

Common Sense celebrates its ninth anniversary in Edmonton with the opening of Metals/Myth: Sculptures by Ryan McCourt on Thursday, March 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm, at 10546 – 115 street, Edmonton. The exhibition and reception are free to the public, and the artist will be in attendance. The exhibition runs until March 23, viewable by appointment or by chance.

“Metals/Myth presents a varied selection of McCourt’s newest sculptures, inspired from a number of legendary sources, and constructed from a wide vocabulary of found metal materials, sourced mainly from thrift stores and antique shops. These brass and copper elements offer McCourt an abundance of shapes to employ; from rods and planes and other simple geometric objects, to a menagerie of complex figurative sculptural forms; each lending themselves to ruthless adaptation and alteration in the service of the next imaginative, improvisational composition. Unlike the massive rusted steel works one might associate with Edmonton’s abstract metal sculpture tradition, McCourt’s small, assembled brass works exhibited in Metals/Myth are noteworthy for their intimate scale and elegant expression.”
